We arrived in Kuala Besut at 6.30am and were dropped off at the boat ticket operator where we got our tickets over to Pehrenthian. The boat was due at 7am so we didn’t have to wait long. The boat was full and took about 30-40 minutes to get to Pulau Kecil. We were staying on Long Beach.

We unloaded the bags when we got off the boat and I sat on the beach with them while the lads went looking for accommodation. After going to nearly every place on the beach they came back with a couple of options. We decided to stay at Lily. This was a wooden chalet with 2 double beds, air con and a bathroom. We also had an extra guest who I named Gary. He was a gecko who just crawled around the ceiling all day and night. The good thing is that he ate the cockroaches and spiders!

We were all absolutely knackered and all fell asleep. An hour or so later I got up and had a shower and went for something to eat. A few minutes later Chris and Matt joined me and we were sat chatting when Chris looked down the beach and shouted. His friend Sam was walking past. Sam came and sat with us for a bit and then we walked down the beach with him to meet Andy. We walked back to our chalet where we showed off our huge bathroom to Sam and Andy and the lads all chatted. We were getting hungry so Sam and Andy left to get changed for dinner and so did we.

That night we went to Panorama for dinner. Most places do a fish/seafood barbecue so tonight I decide on Barracuda. It was delicious. After dinner the lads had a couple of games of table football and we went to a bar. It’s not like at home here, if you want a vodka, you buy a bottle, then cans and ask for a cup with ice. It’s not very easy to stay sober. A bottle of vodka was 20 ringgit, which is about £3.

It was the first night and we had 3 bottles of vodka and 3 bottles of whiskey, we all chatted, got to know each other and had a laugh. This was going to be a good week!!
