What the have I done?
07.09.2006 - 07.09.2006
After a second 7 hour flight, I finally reached Singapore. The novelty of flying was starting to wear off. I wasn’t nervous or scared, it was just a matter of taking things as they come. Again, Anita had been to Singapore before and she was nice enough to stay with me. We went to the toilets to freshen up, then collected our bags. Anita got us both a taxi and wished me well. It took about half an hour to get to Arab Street, where I was staying. I had a bit of trouble at first but in the end, I found ‘Sleepy Sams’ and as soon as I got to the counter, the woman said my name. This was such a small thing for her to say but was really reassuring to me. All the booking and organising was actually going to plan!
I was shown the rooms and the toilets and showers and also the living area. It was about 10.30pm, too late to go out, to early to go to bed. I sat in the living area for a bit and there were people sat around having conversations about where they had been and where they were off to next. I felt I couldn’t join in as I had nothing to tell. I decided to go to bed and wondered what the hell I had got myself into!
